A Challenging Ballet Inspired Workout

Pure Barre is the ultimate overall body workout that is low impact but very challenging. It's been termed the “Intelligent Exercise” and we have to agree! Inspired by the graceful poise and movement of ballet, Pure Barre was created to sculpt and tone your body utilizing small isometric movements all choreographed to the beat of an awesome playlist in just 55 minutes.

You will sweat. You will feel the burn. You will push yourself. During this 55 minute class, you will tone those hips, thighs, abs, arms and booty. The Barre workout is not for the faint of heart, it's for both men and women looking for a challenge and those competitive with the goal of beating their yesterday selves. You will tuck your way into a burn and work muscles that you probably didn't realize that you had.

Our Pure Barre Experience and Tips

At Physi, we can't write about a workout without experiencing it first hand, and experience it we did. Here are a few helpful tips to get you started.

  • We recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early, that way you can introduce yourself, fill out any necessary paperwork and get to know the instructor in case you need a little extra help during your working.
  • We suggest wearing leggings, tank top and a pair of socks with the traction on the bottom so you don't go sliding all over the wooden floors.
  • Don't forget water and a towel. It's a challenging workout - you will sweat a lot and need to stay hydrated.
  • Don't try to impress the room and go for the giant weights. Embrace the 2lb weights, they may be small but they are mighty and will feel like boulders, five minutes into class- trust us.

After you have all your gear, get yourself a spot along the barre in front of the mirror. Take a deep breath, prepare yourself and accept the challenge before you. Since these classes can be pretty packed they follow a structured flow:

  • Warm-up
  • Sculpt Arms
  • Tone Thighs
  • Lift Seat
  • Flatten Abs
  • Cool Down (a favorite)

Barre classes feature the same movements throughout and are meant for multiple skill levels. Even if you are a veteran you won't ever be held back in a class with a bunch of first timers since you are in control when it comes to skill level - the deeper you fall into the moves, the more challenging it can be. When it comes to Barre, you are your own coach and it's up to you on how challenging you make it.

If you are up for a bigger challenge than the traditional Barre class, there are a few other options The first are group intensive specialty classes that focus on specific body areas and last about 75 minutes.

  • Intensive: Slenderize Outer Thighs
  • Intensive: Lifted Seat
  • Intensive: Bye Bye Inner Thighs

We accepted the Barre challenge and felt the burn as we got our booty kicked. We give this class 5 Physi's and will be adding it as one of our personal aerobic activities goals.
