Cornhole

A Queen City Original?

Dec 17, 2015 by Brittany M

Cornhole is one of the 40+ sports currently available on Physi. It's a pastime favorite among many, a go to game for family get togethers and it saturates the stadium parking lots come tailgating season. It's fun, competitive, and great for all ages. Cornhole is rumored to have originated on the west side of Cincinnati- pretty cool.

Cornhole, also known as dummy boards, bean bag toss, dadhole doghouse (what?), Baggo, or just Bags, is the ultimate American lawn game where players take turns tossing bags of corn at a raised platform with a hole in the far end. Each bag to hole scores 3 points, while one on the platform scores 1. The game continues until one team reaches 21 points.

Breaking It Down Step by Step and some Rules

Cornhole matches are broken down into innings or frames. During each inning, every player throws four bags. A player can throw the bag from either the left or right of the pitcher's box (the raised platform). Each pitcher's box is three-feet and each player must deliver the bag in twenty seconds. Time starts the moment the pitcher steps up to the plate, um box we mean. The distance between the boards should be 27 feet from nose to nose.

Cornhole can be played as either doubles or singles. Doubles matches are four players split into two teams where one person from each team pitches from one cornhole platform and the other member pitches from the other platform. Players alternate between pitching with one player from each team throwing four bags from one platform before the players on the other platform throw. If you are playing singles, players continuously change platforms with each player alternating the pitching of the bags. No matter which way you play, the game ends when the one team hits 21 points.

Cornhole is the perfect event to create on Physi, it's fun, social and everyone loves it!

You can purchase cornhole sets almost anywhere and if you're one of those DIY folks, you can find instructions on how to build your custom set here.
