The Ultimate Full-Body Workout That's FUN!

Nov 16, 2015 by Brittany M

Boxing is a wildly popular sport, producing legends like Muhammad Ali, Rocky Marciano and even some legends local to the Queen City — Adrian Broner and Aaron Pryor. It's also one of the most effective full-body workouts out there, burning an average of 13 calories per minute. So for every 3-minute round of boxing, you're burning off 4 sour patch kids candies — that's our kind of math!

Boxing Benefits:

Boxing boosts strength and cardio because it is a powerhouse of a workout. It improves skills you use every day, like balance, coordination, reactivity and agility, making it a great cross-training tool for athletes. You burn more calories in less time than many other cardio activities, so this is a game changer when it comes to personal fitness goals for busy people.

Boxing is also the original king of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). HIIT is both aerobic and anaerobic; as the workout intensity increases, your body requires more energy than aerobic metabolism can provide, putting your body into anaerobic mode, which is where you build strength, speed, power and really ignite that metabolism.

And who doesn't want to fire up that metabolism? We know we do, because now that it's tailgating season — which means beer and wings, moderately speaking — we can use all the metabolic help we can get.

Boxing kicks booty, literally and figuratively, and is a great asset to stress reduction. Kick (or better yet, punch) your next case of the Mondays right in the face by scheduling a boxing session on Physi the app.

Boxing Seems Cool, Now Where do I go?

Brittany, our Digital Marketing Strategist, loves boxing and has been playing the sport for a few years now. No, she's not competing yet, but she's in the ring anywhere from 4-6 days of the week at Cincinnati Fitness and Boxing, where your first class is always FREE. You can join her there, or check out this list of some of our other favorite places to jab, cross and hook our bodies into shape.

When you find an activity that you love to do, it becomes less of a chore and more of a fun, social outlet from the everyday. At Physi, that's exactly what we're trying to do — create a tool that allows you to have fun while staying healthy. We challenge you — yes, you! — to schedule a day this week to try a boxing class with a friend using Physi.

After you do, share a bit of your boxing challenge with us on Facebook and Instagram using #ChallengeAccepted.
